Palau underwater prewedding shoot with jellyfish

This set of underwater wedding photography is as unique as it can get. Not only is it an underwater pre-wedding shoot, it is done at a unique location few had been before! The jellyfish lake at Palau features hundreds and thousands of jellyfish living in an enclosed lake. Due to the lack of predators for centuries, they have evolved to losing their sting for protection.  Both Irwin and Adele are divers, thus wanted some underwater wedding images and the jellyfish lake is one of the dive destinations that they had always wanted to go. They decided to put these two desires together and engaged me to go capture some stunning pre-wedding pictures at the jellyfish lake.

Once we arrived at the jetty, the entrance to the island, we head straight to the lake. After a hard climbed up some rough terrain we finally arrived! Due to the sulphuric composition at the bottom of the lake, oxygen tanks were not allowed. Hence I will have to rely on my fins to keep afloat while carry a heavy underwater casing and 2 heavy underwater strobes. Irwin and Adele will have to trek water throughout as there are no boat in the middle of the lake to let them climb up to rest. We tried getting 2 floatation to be placed near them while we shoot. But as we were constantly moving, the two floats ended up as a hindrance instead. Eventually we tied them to the trees at the sider of the lake and carry on shooting.

This is definitely one of the toughest shoot I have ever done. Its both mentally and physically straining. Not only do I have to trek water for four whole hours, I have to keep adjusting my exposure and angles according to the fast changing sunlight. The moving clouds covering and exposing the sun gave me quite a headache. But then again, this set of images would not have been so memorable if not for all this difficulties. I was glad the couple took it well. They do have the stamina to stay afloat on the lake without any floatation device!
